One often overlooked area of a home is the lighting. We’ve discussed how paint and colour matters, but lighting affects this as well. From a seller's perspective, the proper lighting will make your home more appealing to people looking for homes in the Windsor real estate market. For buyers, they want to envision themselves living in the space and proper lighting can affect whether they think certain Windsor homes for sale are right or not for them. Even if you are not thinking about buying or selling, lighting can be a great way for homeowners to make quick upgrades relatively cheap to make the home more comfortable. When we think about lighting, the two most recent trends in home lighting have been CFL bulbs, these are energy efficient but give off harsh light. Then we moved onto LEDs which are also eco-friendly and also allow us to decide what “colour'' we want. When we go shopping for new LED bulbs or lamps, we are met with options like warm/soft white, bright/cool white, and even daylight. The bulbs that are “softer” or “warmer” will give off a bit more of a yellowish light. Bulbs that are “brighter” or “cooler” will throw a more blue or white light.

If you are unsure what type of light is right for you and your home, you can always test out one of each and see how it affects your home. Alternatively, you can take the smart home approach. While more expensive, smart bulbs like Philips Hue connect to your smartphone and allow you to change the colour including the temperature to adjust to the exact temperature or colour you prefer. For some events or times in the home you may want a brighter white or a cooler yellow or even a neutral daylight. With a smartbulb every room can be controlled for just the right mood.
