Windsor-Essex News: NextStar Hiring Begins

Fresh off the news of a new EV battery supply chain partner coming to Windsor, more good news is on the way. The joint-venture NextStar Energy battery plant from Stellantis and LG Energy Solutions is beginning to build what they call their “launch team”.

After a two month window of the project sitting in limbo, the agreement between Stellantis/LG and the provincial and federal governments has kicked the process into high gear. NextStar says they will be hiring a team of 130 that will create their “launch team”. 30 of the staff will be professional staff and the other 100 employees will be made up of highly skilled engineers and technicians. The engineers and technicians will also be setting off to Poland, China, and South Korea for an international training program on running a large scale, lithium-ion battery plant. Danies Lee, NextStar CEO had this to say about the hiring push.

The $5 billion plant, slated to be the leading battery hub in North America, is scheduled to begin operations in the first half of 2024, with a goal of having 2,500 employees in place to allow for full-scale production in early 2025.
