Home Guide: Preparing Your Home For Fall Allergies
We are officially back to school, fall is almost upon us and with it comes the dreaded fall allergy season. The sniffles, sneezes, itchy eyes, and runny noses are here. Thinking there is no way to stop the inevitable? You may not be able to stop it, but you can help mitigate it. This is especially true if you were int he Windsor real estate market this summer and found a house for sale in Windsor and made the move, you will want to prepare your new home the best you can. Same goes for long-time homeowners, these tips can help you limit the allergens that may already be present in your home as well. Check out the 5 tips below to get your home ready for fall allergies below.
+ Duct Cleaning: Chances are you’ve been called by someone offering a deal you can’t refuse. Well don’t take it because it is likely a scam, however, do contact a professional to get your ducts cleaned. It will help to eliminate the dust, dander, and other allergens that settle in your ducts and in turn get blown into the air you breathe when the furnace turns on.
+ Air Filters: Let’s stick the HVAC system in your home. By keeping your furnace filters fresh, changing them every 3 months or so, can keep them at peak performance and catch more allergens before they make their way indoors. To help reduce costs, you can consider these change intervals only for peak allergy seasons.
+ Laundry: Sheets, pillows, blankets, and similar items catch and hold allergens in them. Make sure to give these extra washes to keep them clean and fresh and consider washing alone to not cross spread allergens to other items.
+ Door Mats: If you have doormat outside your doors, be sure to keep them clean as they can hold allergens. You can also consider heavy duty door mats that can trap and hold more dust and other allergens you may bring in on your shoes and into your home than traditional mats.
+ Windows: The hard one, there is nothing better than a fall breeze bringing cool, fresh air into the home or helping cool off the bedroom at night. Well those breezes are what is carrying the allergens right into your home. Use online sources to track allergy reports and keep your windows closed on days with high counts and as they drop, feel free to open up those windows once again.
