The convenience of shopping from the comfort of your home is great and the wide selection means more choices, but it also means the increase of porch pirates. You know these people, they drive around neighbourhoods and look for packages sitting at front doors and when they find them they simply walk up to your home and take it hoping there is something good inside.

How To Prevent Porch Pirates

Here are some helpful tips to make sure your packages are delivered safely to you and you only this holiday season.

Cameras
- Doorbell cameras are a great deterrent as would be porch pirates don't want to risk being on camera and identified.
- For busy delivery seasons, indicate with signage that the porch area is under video surveillance.
- If they do strike, you have footage to provide police.
Alternative Delivery Locations
- Many of us simply are not home during the day when most deliveries are made. Ship the package to a family member who will be home or to a trusted neighbour who you know will be home.
- You can can also ask your employer if you can have the package delivered to your place of work.
- Finally, if you receive many packages, look into getting a package locker for your porch.

- If possible, always request a signature for delivery
