What It Costs to Cross

Toll rates are already published. The standard rate for a personal vehicle is $8.00 CAD each way, and there's a discount program called Breakaway that cuts that to $6.00. Registration is free and open now through the bridge's website. Trailers add the same rate again per trailer, and commercial traffic pays by the axle.

If you cross regularly for work, the Breakaway discount adds up fast. Two dollars saved per crossing is $20 a week for a daily commuter, before you count the return trip.

You Can Walk or Bike Across, for Free

This is the part most locals don't know yet. The bridge includes a Multi-Use Path for pedestrians and cyclists, and access is free. It opens August 5, 2026, about a week after vehicle traffic starts. Why It Matters Beyond the Toll Booth

The Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority expects the crossing to generate billions of dollars in economic activity over the coming decades, strengthening supply chains, supporting manufacturing, and improving the movement of goods. To make sure the benefits land locally, Canada and the U.S. have agreed to a set of cooperative measures, including a 15-year economic development fund financed by a portion of bridge operating profits and aimed at investments in the region. The two governments will also cooperate on toll governance, with the U.S. given a say on certain non-market toll changes.
