The City of Windsor is letting the public know about the expansion of their road safety initiatives, including red light cameras and Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) cameras.
The city is continuing to expand threir red light camera program with two more cameras activating on September 22, 2025 bring the total number of active cameras to 16. The two new cameras are located at the Lauzon Parkway and Tecumseh Road East intersection and at the Lauzon Parkway and Lauzon Line intersection. The remaining 4 cameras are planned to be activated by the end of 2025 to complete the 20 red-light cameras plan approved by City Council to date.
The city says the initial ASE program rollout will begin this December and prioritize enforcement in five school areas that are within designated school zones or community safety zones. Under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act speeding fines in these zones are doubled. The city as added advances notification signs in these areas to notify drivers of these future ASE enforcement zones.

This news comes on the heels of Ontario Premiere Doug Ford calling for a removal of ASE cameras saying they are a cash grab and taking money out of tax payers pockets. Toronto recently saw the vandalism and destruction of 17 of these cameras. Premiere Ford plans to outline better ways to reduce speeding. The cameras have the support of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police and the association that represents Ontario's municipalities. According to a study led by SickKids in partnership with Toronto Metropolitan University, these cameras reduced speeding by 45 per cent in Toronto.
