The Gordie Howe International Bridge is not the only large construction project that is underway in Windsor-Essex. After an extended stoppage due to a funding disagreement, the NextStar battery plant has seen substantial construction progress, including hitting 30% completion at the end of 2023.
One of the other debated topics was the use of foreign workers in the build of the battery plant. According to the CBC, approximately 1,600 South Korean workers will be brought in temporarily to assist with the set-up of the plant. The Windsor-Essex Chamber of Commerce was expecting this due to the highly skilled nature of the work. With that number of expected temporary workers expected to call the region home, housing will need to be sorted out for them. With the plant being located on Twin Oaks drive just off of Banwell Road, and being mostly accessed via E.C. Row/County Road 22, areas like Tecumseh, Central Windsor, East Windsor, Lakeshore, and even South Windsor could see the most amount of interest from workers.
With these workers being temporary, most if not all will be looking for fully furnished rentals in Windsor. This will allow them to have the simplest moving process, they can simply bring their wardrobe and move into the property. This allows allows them to have little commitment beyond the rent cost itself. Once they have completed their work and are returning home, they have nothing to do but pack up their personal belongings and be on their way. However, these types of listings are available less then traditional rentals, meaning their may be supply and demand issues.
